About US Dollar Index
The U.S. Dollar Index, shown as USDInd, tracks the dollar against a basket of six currencies: the euro, Japanese yen, British pound, Canadian dollar, Swedish krona and Swiss franc. It measures the dollar’s movement against that specific basket; a higher level indicates an overall strengthening in that comparison.
The currencies in the Dollar Index have unequal weights, making it different from a simple average of all dollar pairs. Its movement describes the dollar relative to that basket. A rise does not necessarily mean the dollar strengthened against every currency, including the Iranian toman.
